Making improvements to your life need not be equivalent to moving mountains. All it requires is making small changes here and a few tweaks there to help you live your life to the fullest.
What can you do to make your life better?
1. Get into an exercise routine
This is one of the best things you can do to keep both mind and body fit and they’ll thank you for it. Make some time in the day even as less as 30 minutes to do some kind of physical activity. It could be anything from gym to playing sports or even going for a walk.
2. Start thinking differently
Get out of the habit of coming up with run of the mill solutions to problems at work or at home. Start thinking out of the box. Try new things. You’ll love it when your creative juices start flowing.
3. Get more shut-eye
It has been proven time and again that there is nothing better to increase energy levels and productivity than a good night’s sleep. Even an hour of sleep more than usual leaves you with a rested body and fresh mind for the day ahead.
4. Give time to your relationships
What is it that makes life worth living? It’s the people in your life – your family, friends, your co-workers, and yes, even your boss. Take some time out of your busy schedule to make one phone call, write one email or go for a coffee with a buddy.
5. Stop trying to see what’s not there
Much of the stress in our lives comes from trying to over-analyse things. We read too much into people’s behaviour and jump to unnecessary conclusions. Learn to see things as they are and leave it at that. Don’t try to create a background when there isn’t one.
6. Don’t let emotions rule your mind
When you start allowing this to happen, you can get into a lot of trouble – in relationships, at work and financially. Keep the heart away from objective situations and major decisions. Think things through before taking a step forward.
7. Learn to let go
A lot of pain, anguish, remorse and guilt are stored up in our heads which has its origins in the past. Start letting go of painful memories. It will not be easy; but once you succeed, you feel as light as a feather.
8. Clean up your act
Clutter adorns the workplace and home more often than not. It gives a very negative vibe when it surrounds you day in and day out. Start cleaning up the clutter in parts at a time. When it’s all gone, enjoy your new-found space!
9. Bond with nature
Get in touch with your green side. Take a walk in a park. Make a trip to the beach. Take your family to a resort or just hang out with loved ones. Nothing relaxes you better. Even keeping a potted plant at work has been shown to promote productivity.
10. Learn how to give
Start donating – clothes, unused household items and even money. It will give you a sense of happiness and goodwill. After all, “It is better to give than to receive”!
These might seem like such small and unimpressive steps to take, however, like they say “the taste of the pudding is in the eating”. Try them first and see how much better you feel about yourself and the level of improvement you and others around you actually see.
Becoming a better person is not really about having great achievements and coming out on top. It is about looking in the mirror of your life and being content with what you see, not necessarily outwardly but inside as well. It is about enjoying your life, even though you don’t have all the money in the world.
Wishing you and me good luck on this journey of life long self-improvement!
